Coffee and Clays: Trap 101
About this event
The Coffee and Clays program is designed to provide a welcoming, structured opportunity for club members to improve their trapshooting skills through short, focused training sessions. The goal is to create an approachable environment for shooters of all experience levels, from those learning the basics to experienced shooters looking to refine specific skills.
Sessions will combine instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on learning while encouraging participation and mentorship within the club.
The Trap 101 Session is open for both:
- Qualified shooters looking to strengthen their fundamentals
- Non-shotgun-qualified shooters who want an introduction to trapshooting
Topics will include:
- Basic safety and trap fundamentals / concept
- Proper stance and starting position
- How targets are presented
- How to pattern a shotgun
- General overview of trap equipment and technique
By registering for this event, you are signing up for both instruction and live fire session as part of the training. The schedule will follow:
- Participants will need to sign in at the clubhouse, then head to the Trap Pavilion for instruction
- The session will begin with an introduction to the game of Trap, fundamentals of shooting Trap, commonly made mistakes, safety, and some tips and tricks.
- Everyone will go to the trap field to observe what the clay positions look like as they come out of the house
- The group will then split up, with some shooters going to pattern their guns and others going to the line to practice their shooting. You will not be “graded” based on how many targets you break.
- Your shooting will be monitored by Shotgun Qualified Volunteers.
- Breakfast will be provided
You need to bring:
- Eye and ear protection.
- Shotgun (We do not rent or provide shotguns or allow shotguns that do not have a shoulder stock.
- 2 boxes of shotgun shells
- Shotgun clays payment card OR at least $10 to pay for clays if you are not a qualified shotgun member yet
- Recommended if you have it: a shooting vest or shell pouch and a hat.
